To qualify you must:

Earn less than R3500.01 per month per household.
Be a first time government subsidy recipient.
Be a first time home owner.

Waiting lists are locally driven initiative and in each municipality the waiting period differs. Housing development normally takes place within a planned and prioritised process where the local conditions dictate what area should receive assistance first. You must also remember that housing development takes time normally at least two years before a house in a new area is ready for occupation. We are trying our best to speed up the delivery rate.
You must be in the market looking for a house and should be able to secure a home loan / bond as it is a requirement to access the FLISP subsidy.
You have already purchased a property which has been transferred into your name with effect from 01 April 2012, 01 April 2014 or 28 July 2018 provided you meet the requirements of the respective policy revisions.

A notice will be published in your local newspaper calling for potential beneficiaries to apply for the advertised vacant sites. Application forms will be obtainable from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements website

The Social Housing Subsidies are not given to tenants, but to the Socila Housing Institute(SHI) that constructs and manages social housing (hence the name Institutional Subsidy).

An air of elation permeated the often quiet suburb of Copesville in Ward 29 of Msunduzi Local Municipality in uMgungundlovu District Municipality on Friday 22 March 2024 when six houses belonging to military veterans were officially handed over to them after a long wait The Friday hand over marked a second installment of the hand over of houses to military veterans following the January hand over of houses to the military veterans in uMshwathi Local Municipality also in uMgungundlovu District Municipality. KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Sipho "KK" Nkosi accompanied by Msunduzi Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Mzimkhulu Thebolla officiated at the hand over of six houses to members of the Liberation War Fighters mostly drawn from the Azanian Liberation Army (AZANLA) the erstwhile military wing of the Azanian People's Organisation (AZAPO) . Among the six AZANLA members who took occupation of their houses included Lucky Zulu, Phumlani Kweyams and Andile Rasta Cele.
