Waiting lists are locally driven initiative and in each municipality the waiting period differs. Housing development normally takes place within a planned and prioritised process where the local conditions dictate what area should receive assistance first. You must also remember that housing development takes time normally at least two years before a house in a new area is ready for occupation. We are trying our best to speed up the delivery rate.
You must be in the market looking for a house and should be able to secure a home loan / bond as it is a requirement to access the FLISP subsidy.
You have already purchased a property which has been transferred into your name with effect from 01 April 2012, 01 April 2014 or 28 July 2018 provided you meet the requirements of the respective policy revisions.

A notice will be published in your local newspaper calling for potential beneficiaries to apply for the advertised vacant sites. Application forms will be obtainable from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements website

The Social Housing Subsidies are not given to tenants, but to the Socila Housing Institute(SHI) that constructs and manages social housing (hence the name Institutional Subsidy).

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Sipho "KK" Nkosi earlier this morning of Friday 28 March 2024 officiated at the hand over of a new house to beneficiary Ms Bongiwe Mthembu of Ward 1. The house is part of the 200-units Phase Four of the Mnqobokazi Rural Housing Project. Mthembu's dire shelter situation was identified during an Operation Siyahlola Programme in early February when MEC Nkosi inspected progress on the Mnqobokazi Rural Housing Project. Mthembu and her siblings are staying in a small makeshift unsafe mudhouse in Njiya area and MEC Nkosi instructed the contractor that her situation be prioritized. The Department also built a VIP latrine ablution facility for the Mthembu homestead. . Today's house hand over activity formed part of activities to the build-up of the Provincial Celebratory and Commemorative Event of Human Rights Day in Makhasa Community in Ward 3 of Big Five Hlabisa Local Municipality outside Hluhluwe in uMkhanyakude District Municipality
