Waiting lists are locally driven initiative and in each municipality the waiting period differs. Housing development normally takes place within a planned and prioritised process where the local conditions dictate what area should receive assistance first. You must also remember that housing development takes time normally at least two years before a house in a new area is ready for occupation. We are trying our best to speed up the delivery rate.
You must be in the market looking for a house and should be able to secure a home loan / bond as it is a requirement to access the FLISP subsidy.
You have already purchased a property which has been transferred into your name with effect from 01 April 2012, 01 April 2014 or 28 July 2018 provided you meet the requirements of the respective policy revisions.

The Social Housing Subsidies are not given to tenants, but to the Socila Housing Institute(SHI) that constructs and manages social housing (hence the name Institutional Subsidy).

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Sipho "KK" Nkosi has bemoaned retrogressive actions of some people that have seen some three housing projects being stalled in Umuziwabantu Local Municipality's KwaMachi and KwaJali areas in Ugu District Municipality in southern part of the Province. MEC "KK" Nkosi said this on Tuesday 13 February 2023 when he conducted an Operation Siyahlola of these three rural housing projects in Umuziwabantu Local Municipality. MEC Nkosi also handed over a house to the Shabane family in KwaMachi Village outside the town of Harding. During the Operation Siyahlola Programme, the MEC was in the company of the contractor who promised to complete a house in six weeks for an elderly grandmother whose mud house was destroyed by heavy storms as well as another house for another family which also suffered the same fate. Among the senior Departmental officials who accompanied MEC Nkosi during the Operation Siyahlola Programme included the General Manager for Corporate Services Max Mbili and Acting Director for Ugu and Harry Gwala Districts Mvuzo Yengwa
